Bruce M. Berkowitz, MD

Dr. Berkowitz has more than 24 years in practice experience in Broward County specializing in general orthopaedics, arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder and sports medicine. He is Board Certified and Re-Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and held an appointment as a Voluntary Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Miami for 15 years.

Dr. Berkowitz received a B.S. degree in Chemistry, Summa Cum Laude in 1976 from the City University of New York - Brooklyn College. He received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1979. After completing a surgical internship at the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Berkowitz completed an Orthopaedic Residency at the University of Miami - Jackson Memorial Hospital with an appointment as Administrative Chief Resident. He also completed a preceptorship in Sports Medicine at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Dr. Berkowitz is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and of the American College of Surgeons. He has served as Chief of Orthopaedics and Vice-Chief of Staff at Universal Medical Center. He has served as Assistant Chief Medical Officer of the 1996 South Florida Olympic Soccer Team and as the team doctor of the Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Berkowitz has also provided medical coverage for the Red Clay Tennis Tournament in Coral Springs.

Dr. Berkowitz continues as an Expert Medical Advisor as appointed by the Florida Division of Worker’s Compensation. He has lectured across the state on issues pertaining to Worker’s Compensation and other aspects of Orthopaedic Surgery.
